About Marilyn

I come from a long line of storytellers. Growing up on a farm near a small town in North Florida, I attended the same school in grades K-12, moved away for seventeen years to go to college and begin my career, then moved back to teach in the very same town! We built a house on the farm where I grew up and only five minutes from the farm where Bob was raised.

That doesn't mean I've not seen other places, though! Traveling in the United States and abroad is one of of my favorite hobbies. In fact, every other year I lead groups of students and adults on European tours. I'm a voracious reader and relax by playing the piano and puttering in my flower and herb gardens and koi pond.

Especially at family gatherings, I heard tales - some true and some tall - and apparently soaked up lots of them. Marrying my husband gave me a whole new set of stories and story tellers. All of those stories have swirled in my head for years, but I think I had to reach this "certain age" to shape them into fiction. My background and heritage are reflected in every page and I hope that those who haven't enjoyed living in or visiting what we call "the real Florida" will get to know what's left of it after reading Solomon.

The basic bio is unremarkable:

  • BS and MS in English Education, The Florida State University
  • EdS in Curriculum and Instruction, The University of Florida
  • 32 years of teaching in Gadsden, Pinellas, Lafayette, and Alachua counties, Florida
  • Fifth generation agrarian Floridian married to another fifth generation agrarian Floridian
  • Married to J. Robert (Bob) Shaw
  • Australian Blue Heelers: Dingo and Coyote

I don't want to bore you, so I'll leave you with a little mystery! If you have questions, email me and I'll try to respond quickly.
